29er
The 29er is high performance skiff, sailed by a team of two, with the crew on a trapeze. The 29er was designed by Australian skiff legend Julian Bethwaite, following his successes with the Aussie 18 and 49er. The design of the 29er has packaged the often complicated field of skiff sailing into an easy to handle and simple design without sacrificing any of the performance or thrill of skiff sailing. The boat easily planes upwind and when you turn downwind and hoist the kite hang on for the ride of your life! Strictly One-DesignThe 29er was conceived as a pure one-design skiff in the strictest of traditions, and has been maintained as such. All the equipment on the boat, even the sails, come from a single source supplier. This eliminates the “emphases on the minutia” found in other one-design classes that invariably leads to excessive “race options” and “go fast gimmicks.” With the 29er all the equipment needed for the boat is supplied with it and nothing needs to be, or can be added. 29ers are built on five continents, and each builder is under strict control of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), to ensure they adhere to the boats exceedingly strict one design standards. This allows for pure racing competition the world over and is one of the keys to the 29er’s success. Hull * Constructed from hi-tech composite (polyester and fiberglass) foam sandwich creating an ultra-lightweight hull, that is more durable and easier to maintain and repair Control Lines * Gnav system to open up cockpit and better control leech tension Blades * Centerboard and rudder are both made from a unique, patented, aluminum extrusion that comes from a single extruder and are virtually indestructible Sails & Mast * Sails made from long-lasting, reinforced mylar ensuring that they will not tear when a crew member inevitably falls on them during a capsize |
